We have had reports from a number of customers that they have received phone calls from people claiming to be from Microsoft and other organisations.
If you get a call from someone claiming to be Microsoft DO NOT do anything they ask you to do or give out any personal information. Instead get as much information as you can about them i.e. phone number, location, e-mail address and then report them to trading standards.
Similarly if you get a call from someone who claims they will fix your computer for FREE or stating that you have problems with you computer, you should NOT do anything they say or give out any personal information. Try to get as much information as you can from them first. Most of these will be scams and will get you to do or perform actions on your computer stating that you have multiple problems and they will fix them for you.
Always think is this too good to be true? If the answer is YES then it probably is.
DO NOT give out any personal or financial information.
They will likely want you to pay for them to fix your problems and any other problems you have in the future. Now this may sound like a good deal but the likely hood is that they will infect your machine with a virus or other malicious software and gain access to your computer and other personal information. They will have also gained your financial details in the process as a method of payment for their services.
If you are unlucky and do get caught out by these or any other scams or would like some more information then please contact us and we will be happy to help.
